Acting Studios

Acting studios are generally small, specialized teaching environments that focus on the craft of acting.

Every studio is different. Some train actors in the MeisnerPlus® technique, others train actors in method acting. Some are designed around the theater, others may primarily train its students for a career in film. Some of two or three year programs, some much shorter twelve-week programs.

Because they can vary so dramatically in their approach, you'll want to research a studio thoroughly before you commit to attending. Does the training provide the skills, techniques and knowledge you need to round out your current talents? Are the groups small? Will you receive personal attention? Is there a history of success?

You'll find most acting studios are founded by a successful actor or well-respected acting teacher.

Here are some acting studios you might find interesting:

Stuart Rogers’ Studios
At Stuart Rogers’ Studios, we work with actors and directors of all experience levels, from beginners to working professionals. We offer cutting edge methodologies with traditional roots. In order to meet the demands of the set, stage, audition room, or rehearsal hall, the modern artist must use an approach that is fast, in-depth and powerful. Most of all, it must be effective.

Stella Adler Studio of Acting
The scope of the Studio’s current activities can be summarized in three categories: 1) Professional Actor Training, the core activity of the Studio; 2) The Stella Adler Outreach Division, which provides free training to low income inner city teenagers and 3) The Harold Clurman Art Series which presents cultural events that are free and open to the public. Recent participants in the arts series include Julianne Moore, Harold Mabern, Harold Bloom, John Patrick Shanley, Mark Strand and David Amram.

TVI Actors Studios
Founded in New York City, TVI opened its Los Angeles office in 1988. In both locations, the primary focus of the studio is to provide actors with a means of learning and understanding the practical "ins and outs"of the acting profession. Classes in audition technique are taught by some of the most prominent directors, producers, casting directors and talent agents on both coasts. These classes range in fields from commercials, primetime and daytime TV, to film, musical and straight theater. All of these classes offer the actor the benefit of audition insight from the professionals who are in the industry, running the actual auditions.

HB Studio
HB Studio is a school created by theatre artists. We believe in a process of training that is essential to all the performing arts. We offer a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum of study for committed students of all levels where the actor’s unique potential is cultivated and encouraged. We provide a haven for working professionals, free from commercial pressures. Working in partnership with the HB Playwrights Foundation and Theatre, we uphold a standard of performance that can play a significant role in shaping today’s contemporary and classical theatre – a standard envisioned by our founder, actor/director Herbert Berghof, and championed by the actor and master teacher Uta Hagen.

Brian Reise Acting Studios
The focus of the classes taught at the studio are on the Reality of the Acting Business. We teach actors how to develop their acting skills so they can book jobs, get agents and better understand the business. The skills taught at the studio prepare actors of all levels to succeed in all areas of the acting profession. From scene breakdown, understanding genres of material, cold reading, camera techniques, auditioning skills and specific acting techniques needed to be successful.

Toronto Association of Acting Studios

Act One Studios
Act One Studios, the Midwest's largest professional acting school, is a training center in Chicago which offers small, practical, challenging acting classes in a supportive environment. We offer classes for adults in Acting, On-Camera, Voice, Movement, Directing, and How To Get Started In The Business. With our small class sizes (average ten students), you receive personal attention from our faculty - all working, professional actors and directors.
