Acting Schools
Many actors and actresses undergo training at acting schools to attain the necessary skills to succeed. Without a doubt this training can be truly beneficial and will almost certainly give any budding actor an edge when trying to learn their craft.
Acting school training usually consists of a course lasting for approximately three years. During this time you'll learn a variety of skills including movement, stage fighting, mime, musical theatre, production techniques, working to the camera and much more. The idea of undertaking such a course is to prepare you to undertake a variety of roles and to fully understand your craft.
Actors may want to follow one particular area of their craft. For example, some actors may prefer to work in television, and would love nothing more than to star in a soap opera three times a week with a regular income. Other actors may prefer the thrill of live theatre performances. And still other may prefer to make films. The fact remains, that as an actor if you want to keep working, you'll need to be flexible and able to take on a number of different roles.
Going to drama school does not mean you'll make it as a successful actor. It may give you an edge, but there's no guarantee you'll be a great success. How talented are you? How hard are you willing to work?
If you're interested in attending an acting school then you'll want to contact the school directly to see if you can audition to showcase your talent. This may involve reading a couple of pieces of literature, classic and modern, or perhaps singing a song, or presenting a dance routine.
Remember that acting schools only have a limited number of opening, so it's essential to apply early. Start making your enquiries at your earliest opportunity, and follow up often until you have a final decision.
