Acting Auditions For Kids

Acting auditions for kids are much the same as all acting auditions. They provide an opportunity for the child actor to be seen by a director or casting director to determine if the child is right for an open role. The kid actor should be prepared to read for the project's sides (a piece from the script) and have a backup monologue in case it's needed.

Follow the Boy Scout motto and be prepared. Have your script or monologue down. Maintain a healthy balance by being mentally and physically alert and yet relaxed for your audition. Present yourself in a polite, professional manner.

Before you go to the audition, dress for the part. Wear clothes that fit the character and the story. If you're playing a cowboy don't get dressed up in a business suit. You don't have to go out and rent spurs but wear clothes that suggest the role. Jeans and boots for this role will do fine.

Warm up for the audition just as a pitcher warms up before a ball game. Do some stretches and vocal exercises. Go over your lines. Don't go in cold. It's normal to be nervous, but by preparing yourself you should be able to relax a bit.

When you get to the audition, sign in. You may have to wait for others to read for the same part. Be patient. Avoid talking with the other actors. They will only try to distract you. Focus on what you came there to do.

Because there are so many scams out there, especially for acting auditions for kids, understand that you should never have to pay for audition. Legitimate acting agents and casting directors will not charge you any fees for their services. An agent receives a 10% cut from your earned income. A casting director is simply doing his or her job at an audition ... finding the right child for the right role.
