Acting Agents

An acting agent serves as your representative, gathering information on potential acting auditions and open roles, submitting your headshots and resume to casting directors, working with you to find the acting opportunities that are best suited for your talents. It's his or her job to know which roles are available and which roles are the right fit for you.

Acting agents should have a clear understanding of their client's skills, talents, background, and desires as an actor. They should be licensed and registered with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). They should always work for their client's best interests. And in exchange, they generally receive 10% of their client's income.

Because acting agents play such a vital role in the lives of their clients, it's a relationship founded on trust and honesty. Make sure you understand your acting agent's abilities and limitations, just as he or she should understand yours. Pay attention to any offered advice, yet never forget that your agent is working for you, not the other way around.
